I’ve only ever worked for myself and have been a full-time freelancer for 3 years now, and although a lot of my job is traveling to cool places and taking beautiful pictures, the majority of my work is much less exciting! Think answering emails, bookkeeping, writing up contracts, and the least favorite for most… taxes.
But what if I told you that you don’t have to hate doing your taxes?
Last year I was introduced to 1040.com, a company that has taken something most people dread and found a way to use taxes for good. For every tax return filed, they donate $2 to clean water projects, even if you file for free.
Thus far, 1040.com has been able to fund 5.3 million gallons of clean water – a year’s supply for almost 30,000 people! They partner Healing Waters, a non-profit organization bringing clean water to areas with no access around the world.
In the countries they work in, up to 80% of illnesses are related to poor water and sanitation conditions, and the education of many children is impacted as a result of them needed to travel long distances in a day just to find a clean water source.
And if you’re an artist like me, you probably are not an expert on doing your taxes and could use a little help! Thankfully 1040.com just came out with an updated interview for self-employed entrepreneurs so we have one less thing to worry about amidst our busy schedules.
I love discovering organizations doing good in the world in any area, but I get especially excited about ones that take something mundane and give it a purpose. Just as the Bible says, “Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31), I believe we are called to use every aspect of our work to make an impact in the lives of others.
Head on over to 1040.com to get your 2017 return filed and visit Healing Waters to learn more about how you can join in on making a difference.
